Rehabilitation centre improvements for Smolensk’s handicapped children

Some 45 disadvantaged and physically handicapped children at the OGBU Rehabilitation Center for Minors in Smolensk will benefit from Aspen’s Mandela Day activities.

Three Aspen volunteers spent the day painting playground modules, mowing the grass, painting benches and planting seedlings. These improvements will have a positive psychological impact on the children who benefit greatly from initiatives such as these. A range of educational games were also gifted to assist with the children's cognitive development.

The OGBU centre was established to care for children of all ages who suffer from central nervous system damage or mental damage primarily sustained during pregnancy or at childbirth. Many of these children have also suffered unfavourable parental experiences and are placed in the care of the Centre for their own safety.
