The influence of collaboration
Every year leading up to the Mandela day event the Fine Chemicals Corporation (FCC) community buzzes with the excitement of being part of something great. This year we opted to collaborate with the SAME Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to create an environment where quality healthcare and education is available to everyone.
FCC and the SAME Foundation identified Zimasa Primary School in Langa as the worth beneficiary. The school services an area with a population of over 53 000 people. Zimasa Community School is a Quintile 3 school which is a no-fee school and has a feeding scheme which provides pupils with 2 meals per day.
Upon our arrival we were greeted with the melodic singing of the Zimasa school choir followed by a welcome ceremony and a photo session by the SAME Foundation and a gum boot performance by the learners. With the excitement still high we were led to our designated area that would be our project for the day. We chose to paint the school staff room, distribute party packets and have fun day with the learners.
After the second coat of paint was completed, we distributed party packets to the grade 4 learners following which games, singing and dancing became the order of the day. FCC is aware of the hardship and challenges these learners face on a daily basis and we are humbled to have been able to positively influence them through our caring actions.
