On 28 June 2024, Aspen Malaysia proudly celebrated Mandela Day with a heartfelt display of community service and compassion.

The day was dedicated to honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela, whose life exemplified the values of equality and social justice. For Aspen Malaysia, Mandela Day presents an opportunity to translate these values into action, by making a tangible impact in our local community.

Central to our efforts on Mandela Day was a substantial donation of essential provisions to Kechara Food Bank located at Seri Rejang, Setapak Jaya. Kechara Food Bank plays a crucial role by providing a platform for companies and individuals to contribute surplus produce, cooked food, and dry provisions directly to those in need. Our contribution included 374.96kg of dry provisions such as cooking oil, rice, oats, and canned food items, valued at RM3072.49. This donation aimed to bolster Kechara Food Bank’s mission of alleviating food insecurity and ensuring essential supplies reach the most vulnerable members of our community.

In addition to the donation, 23 dedicated employees from Aspen Malaysia took part in a hands-on effort to collect surplus food from local hypermarkets and kitchens. This initiative not only aimed to prevent food waste but also served as a direct means of providing fresh vegetables and bread to those in need. The surplus food collected was distributed to several organizations, including Kechara Soup Kitchen, Lotus Charity Care Centre, Xiao Xin Old Folks Home, and Yi Xing Old Folks Home, benefiting at least 85 individuals. We also spent quality time engaging with the elderly residents, listening to their stories, and sharing moments of companionship.

Yet again, Mandela Day was a transformative experience for the team at Aspen Malaysia. It reinforced our commitment to social responsibility and underscored our dedication to making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. By embodying Mandela’s values of compassion and equality, we strive to inspire others and contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and compassionate society.
