Aspen Nutritionals selected the Tintswalo Home Based Care Initiative as their project for Mandela Day.
Founder, Mrs Ngomane and 12 volunteers currently service 76 people in the Tembisa community who suffer from various chronic illnesses. The services that they provide include obtaining medication on behalf of the patients from various clinics and hospices; and assisting with home based care duties such as dispensing medication, basic care and counseling.
More than 80 employees donated items for food and toiletry hampers which were distributed to the 76 patients in 60 homes. As most of the patients are unemployed, the hampers provided a family of four with food for a while and the project assisted in feeding approximately 240 individuals. The 12 volunteers also each received an appreciation hamper together with a fully stocked first aid kit to assist them in their endeavours to care for the patients.
Aspen Nutritionals employees assisted the volunteers with home visits and basic care; and also distributed the hampers on Mandela Day.
While conducting the home visits, a few members of Aspen Nutritionals' Maintenance Department noticed that the Tembisa Community Hall needed painting and they immediately brought in paint and rollers and set to enhancing this facility for the community.
