Caring for Moscow’s orphans

Mandela Day 2024 Moscow Report - 21

Aspen’s team in Moscow chose to support Russia’s orphans - one of the most vulnerable groups of the population who do not receive much state support. It is critical that these children and their potential adoptive parents can establish bonds and engage in a comfortable environment where provision is also made for the child’s development and learning.

A supportive network of institutions exists within the Moscow region that provides services for the homeless; neglected, orphaned or abandoned children; and families experiencing various forms of difficulties.

One such social rehabilitation facility is the Family Center for Helping Families and Children "Trust" which accommodates 40 boys and girls from three to 18 years of age. This Center strives to provide a loving, caring home where old traditions are preserved and new ones created.

In celebration of Mandela Day, Aspen’s volunteers improved the playground and painted furniture, tended to the garden by planting flowers and trees, and hosted a soap-making workshop for the delighted children who thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
